How We Scraped 9500+ Movies on IMDb:

ParseHub, the best free web scraper online, allows you to quickly gather thousands to millions of data, without having any coding or programming knowledge. The intuitive free software allows you to click the data you want to extract, and ParseHub will do the rest. Surprisingly, 2022 has over 9,500 movies, and we scraped them all!

Here is how you can scrape IMDb data in Parsehub:

  1. To begin you must Download ParseHub for Free.
  2. In ParseHub, click New Project, and add this URL, or any IMDb URL you want to scrape from: https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?title_type=feature&year=2022-01-01,2022-12-31 (this URL has the most popular movies in 2022 and has over 9,500 titles!) Once you add the URL and click ‘Start project on this URL’, you will see the IMDb page render on the ParseHub browser.
  3. The first selection command is recommended to be clicked on the movie title. The title will turn green, and you will see the other titles turning yellow. Click the next yellow title and all titles will be selected. Rename the selection to ‘Movie’ and it should populate with 50 entries in the preview beneath the browser.
  4. Now that we have the titles, you might want additional info, such as the Metascore, the number of votes, the description and the IMDb rating. To grab these additional fields for each title respectively, we must use the Relative Select feature. Click the PLUS(+) button next to the Movie selection command, and click Relative Select. Now you can click the first title, and click the Metascore. Just like before, you need to click the second title and its respective Metascore. Finally, you will see all 50 titles and their Metascores linked together in the live preview!
  5. You can repeat this Relative Select process for different fields, such as the movie description/synopsis, the number of votes and the IMDb rating. It should look like this on the left pane:

Using Pagination to Scrape Multiple IDMb Pages

Now you might be wondering, how can we parse through all the pages? There are over 9,500 titles for movies in 2022, so we need a way to extract all the titles. We can do this with pagination in ParseHub:

  1. First, you need to click PLUS(+) button next to your page (the topmost select command)
  2. Now you must click the ‘Next’ button at the bottom of the IMDb page. Rename this to next_page. By clicking the expand button, you will see two Extract fields, name and URL, you can delete both.
  3. Now, click the PLUS(+) button on the next_page command, and press the ‘Click’ command instead of the ‘Relative Select’ command.
  4. This will bring a popup, you must click: ‘Yes, this is a next page button’ and finally you can choose the number of pages to parse through. Leave the amount as zero if you want to get all the movies.

Here is What The IMDb Data Will Look Like

If you followed all the steps correctly, and Relatively Selected Metascores, the number of votes, the description and IMDb rating, this is what your data will look like:

Click on the green Get Data button on the left pane. Once the scraping is complete, you will get an email to view your results. You can view the results as a CSV (Excel) or JSON/API to use with an app.
